CSX Corporation is a public company on the New York Stock Exchange. It was founded in 1980 and its headquarters are in Jacksonville Florida. CSX Corporation is in the railroad business and has over 36,000 employees. Now that’s a lot of people with CSX jobs. The corporation got its name as a result of a merger between Chessie Systems and The Seaboard System Railroad. The “C” stands for Chessie and the “S” is for Seaboard and the “X” is for the multiplication symbol to show that when C and S combine you get so much more.
According to Wikipedia CSX Transportation (CSXT) operates a Class 1 Railroad, known as the CSX railroad in the U.S.A. and is owned by the CSX Corporation. They own 21,000 route miles across the U.S. and Canada. CSX operates one of the three Class 1 Railroads in America which serves most of the East Coast. They operate two regions - the Northern region in Illinois and the Southern region in Florida.

CSX has trash trains which operate daily from New York City to Florida. They are huge trains of 50 cars each. There are also Coke Express trains which travel between Pittsburgh and Chicago. Their purpose is to carry coke to industries. So you can seethere are some pretty excting CSX jobs .

Did you know that CSX runs the Juice Train? It’s a unit of Tropicana Fresh Orange Juice. These trains carry Tropicana orange juice between Florida and their distribution centers in New Jersey and Ohio. These juice trains have received awards for efficiency. They showed how well modern rail transportation can compete with trucking and other types of transportation in carrying perishables across long distances. Rail transportation is much more energy efficient now than trucking. For every rail car three trucks can be removed from the highway. and if 10 % of long haul freight would be switched to rail there would be approximately one billion gallons of fuel saved each year -that’s equal to taking 1,000,000 cars off the road. A train can take one ton of freight 500 miles on only one gallon of fuel. Now that’s efficiency!

CSX is very committed to the communities in which its employees live and work. To that end it just started off an eight month long community service project during which CSX newly hired managers will work with existing CSX managers to renovate a building and its surrounding grounds in Jacksonville, Florida. Five hundred CSX employees will work 1200 hours of community service towards this project. And CSX will give $10 an hour to the charitable organization of each employees choice. CSX believes that it will become a better company if it helps to build stronger communities.
